The luminescence of nanocrystalline ZnS : Mn2+ in fact demonstrates a brief decay time component (∼100 ns), but in addition an extended (ms) decay time is observed. The brief decay time is ascribed into a defect-associated emission of ZnS, and isn't through the decay from the changeover from the Mn2+ impurity. The changeover in the Mn2+ features
